An important role in economic development
Industry has always played a major role in the economic development of the RCM of Lac-St-Jean-Est. Even today, aluminum and paper production remain the most important generators of employment in the manufacturing industry; the Rio Tinto and RÉSOLU paper product plants alone generate nearly 1,300 jobs.
Several independent sawmills owned by large companies are scattered within RCM de Lac-St-Jean-Est territory, particularly in the northern sector. The manufacturing sector occupies a predominant place in the socio-economic fabric of the RCM, since this important industrial base makes it possible to develop secondary and tertiary processing sectors in the sectors of lumber, aluminum and other metals.
The medium enterprise sector is just as animated, particularly in the sectors of construction and infrastructure manufacturing. The RCM of Lac-Saint-Jean-Est is also characterized by several small industrial enterprises, which grow within the various municipal industrial parks.
